Pyromorphite characteristics

Pyromorphite is a lead chlorophosphate with the formula Pb₅(PO₄)₃Cl, belonging to the apatite group. It is a secondary mineral that forms mainly in the oxidation zones of lead deposits and crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system.

Its crystals are generally prismatic, short or elongated, sometimes tabular, and may occur in aggregates or druses. Their color most commonly ranges from green to yellow, with orange, brown and greyish tones also occurring.

Within the selection offered here, some pyromorphites are associated with quartz or barite. Differences in crystal habit, color and provenance make it possible to compare specimens with very varied appearances.
